Readers Lives

"Readers Lives" was a public art project commissioned for the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope project by Kent Council, with support of The Arts Council and HLF.

This project explored and celebrated library books: how they inform and enrich the narrative of our daily lives. Library books are the windows into the inner and outer lives of the local community: who we are and who we dream of being.

I worked together with a group of local sixth form students exploring the graphic language of book covers and visual representations of genre, character, narrative and setting. Each student focussed on their chosen genre, developed a character, scouted a location, designed costumes and props. Together we arranged a series of photoshoots in locations around town: the swimming pool, theatre, a riding centre, heritage district and local woods. I then created a series of images that were used in photo banners and displays inside the new library.
